Tu Ishq Tu Junoon – Novel Summary
Areej Shah’s Tu Ishq Tu Junoon is a deeply emotional tale of love tainted by betrayal, and redemption found through pain. It explores how the wounds of a fractured childhood can either destroy or transform a soul.
At the heart of the story is Damish, the abandoned son of Jahangir Shah, a wealthy businessman who left his first wife and child to marry a dancer. After Damish’s mother also leaves him behind to marry her boyfriend and move abroad, Damish is raised by his grandparents, particularly his beloved Dadi, who becomes his only source of emotional security.
With their support, Damish grows into a powerful businessman, ultimately surpassing his father in success. Yet, beneath this triumph lies a burning resentment, toward his father for forsaking him, toward his mother for choosing herself, and toward women in general for the perceived betrayal. His life becomes defined by control, power, and a cold disregard for emotional connection, until he meets Priya, a hardworking medical student and part-time nurse, caring for her cancer-stricken father.
Assigned to tend to Damish’s ailing grandmother, Priya slowly breaks through his hardened exterior. Her kindness and resilience begin to melt the layers of pain and anger he’s hidden behind. What starts as professional distance gradually evolves into a cautious, unexpected love, one Damish never imagined himself capable of.
Parallel to Damish’s journey is the character of Dr. Dawood, a psychiatrist and once a proud, materialistic man like Damish. After losing the love of his life, Dawood renounces his former ways, finds peace in Islam, and serves as a guiding light for Damish. He urges him to abandon his destructive habits and seek peace through prayer and forgiveness.
The novel touches on generational trauma, toxic masculinity, healing through faith, and how emotional neglect in childhood leaves permanent scars unless addressed with love and understanding.
Through haunting memories, soul-deep confrontations, and delicate new love, Tu Ishq Tu Junoon unfolds as a story not just of heartbreak, but of hope, spiritual awakening, and the quiet power of compassion.
