Story Summary – Mehr-un-Nisa by Nemrah Ahmed

Born in tragedy, Mehr-un-Nisa, lovingly called Momo, lost her mother Naima the moment she arrived in this world. Her father Haider, a career-driven economist, was thousands of miles away at a conference and couldn’t return in time.

Emotionally shattered, Haider buried himself in his work, not out of neglect, but to silence the grief of losing his beloved wife. Into this void stepped Hassan, Haider’s cousin and closest friend, who not only named Momo but also raised her with a love and warmth that mirrored that of a devoted father.

As Momo grows, so does her affection for Hassan. What starts as a child’s attachment slowly transforms into a deep, mature love. Despite Hassan’s objections, rooted in morality and a lifetime of brotherly care, Momo insists on marrying him. Haider, recognizing Hassan’s unwavering loyalty, also requests him to accept the proposal. With a heavy heart, Hassan agrees.

But marriage is only the beginning. As Momo steps into a new phase of life, what challenges await her and Hassan? Can love born from care stand the test of real-world differences and emotional complexities?

Core Themes of Novel

Unconventional Love & Emotional Bonds

The story challenges societal norms by exploring how love can evolve between people not bound by traditional romance but by shared life and care.

Emotional Maturity vs. Emotional Need

Momo’s youthful love clashes with Hassan’s emotional maturity. It questions what love really is, desire or responsibility?

Sacrifice and Acceptance

Haider’s silent pain and Hassan’s quiet sacrifices add layers of depth to the story, showcasing how men grieve, give, and grow in silence.

Parenthood Beyond Blood

Hassan’s role is more than a guardian, he’s a reminder that true parenthood is emotional, not biological.
